Career Day at BSLK

We had another exciting day this week!  With Valentines Day, Jack Hartmann's Concert, and Career Day, we have been busy, busy, busy!  It was very obvious the children were tired today.  Many were a tad irritable and fussing like siblings.  (ha!ha!)  Hopefully, they were better Friday afternoon because we rested for an hour after lunch.  Over half of the class went to sleep!! We hardly ever nap but today was much needed.  We had a couple who were snoring so loud that the ones who were awake had to move!! Even though these special days are so much fun,  I am looking forward to a normal school schedule next week.

Just in case your little ones come home and tell you they saw a real BAD GUY at school today, I want to share a video with you.  The local police dept. came out and showed the boys and girls what Police Dogs really do to help them.  The "Bad Guy" happened to be the officer's Sargent dressed up like a convict.  He took off the orange uniform after the stunt was over to show the students his police uniform underneath.

JACK WAS BACK!!

We had a BLAST at the concert!  The boys and girls were so excited to see a Super Star!!  Jack is so much fun and he really loves the children.  He came back to our school after the concert and visited each classroom for a picture.

Experiment Time!!!

This week we spent some time learning about solids, liquids, and gases.  The children loved the experiments!

We used an empty 2 liter bottle and filled it about a third of the way with vinegar.  We then filled a balloon with baking soda and attached it on top of the bottle of vinegar.  We shook the baking soda from the balloon into the vinegar and watched it blow-up the balloon from the gas it created.  The children were so excited!

In our 2nd experiment we made Oobleck!
This involves a box of cornstarch and water.  This is a very cool substance!
YouTube has videos about this experiment. The fun part was the clean-up.  I poured the leftovers onto the table and let the kids have a ball!! We had a mess but it sure was fun!!!

Five Little Snowmen Song

The children love this Song!  It is so simple and cute!  It goes like this:
"Five little snowmen standing in the snow.
Each had a hat and a big red bow.
Out came the sun and it shone all day.
Then one little snowman melted away."

As one melts, a child will slowly fall, and sit on the floor.  The other side of their snowman picture has a melted snowman.  We continue the song until there is one left and here is how the last line goes:

"One little snowman standing in the snow.
He had a hat and a big red bow.
Out came the sun and it shone all day.
And that little snowman melted away!"

The last line we sing really sad because all the snowmen are melted.
